Communities & free trainings
You don't have to figure this out alone. Find other parents and free, expert-led learning.
Parent communities
We show who runs or funds each group, so you can decide who to trust.
| Community | Type | What it offers | Run / funded by |
|---|---|---|---|
| National PTA: PTA Connected[1] | Local, school-based | Screen Smart workshops on supervision tools and screen time, run with Meta. | Run by National PTA with Meta |
| Children and Screens[2] | Online | Free #AskTheExperts webinars and research guides. | Nonprofit institute |
| Common Sense Media[3] | Online & schools | Family resources, AI ratings and school programs. | Nonprofit |
| ParentsSOS[4] | Advocacy | Parents campaigning for online safety laws. | Parent-led nonprofit |
| Fairplay[5] | Advocacy | Pushes back on manipulative tech aimed at kids. | Nonprofit |
| Your local PTA or school district | Local | Many host free family tech nights. Ask your school. | Varies |
Why funding matters: the Parents & Kids Safe AI Coalition, for example, is funded by OpenAI, and some child-safety groups withdrew after learning that (Wikipedia[6]). Want the wider AI safety field? AISafety.com[7] lists 256 communities, mostly for researchers and policy professionals rather than parents.
